Our Triumph Stag not only has an impressive pedigree with a history file as big as the yellow pages but even has a Heritage Certificate to assure its provenance.
Although some people may prefer a manual model, it tends to alienate others who may only have a driving licence for automatic vehicles. Additionally, understanding and practicing the black art of using an overdrive and only four gears can be frustrating.
Another plus with this car as we discovered is its ability to not only allow a bride and bridegroom to sit in the front but have enough room for the bridesmaids to sit in the back.
With its 3 litre V8 it glides smoothly down the
road.
Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, believe it or not back in 1964, the first prototype based on a Triumph 2000 was delivered to the Triumph factory in 1966. Further development and political upheaval due to the incorporation of Triumph into British Leyland meant the Stag did not reach the public until 1970.
The
Triumph Stag production ran from 1970 through to 1977 and just
over 25000 were made. The Stag was revised in 1973 and then came in the
Mark 2 guise although many of the changes were very subtle the main
improvements were made to the engine and some re- design of the
coachwork.
Our Triumph Stag recently had a full engine rebuild with unleaded conversion and the cooling system was also upgraded to a 4 core radiator, kenlowe fan and strengthened hoses. The mohair hood is as new and it also benefits from a having a hard top which can be fitted if required for those cold winter days.
